NAGA CITY, Philippines–With barely three days to go before elections, the candidates of Liberal Party in Camarines Sur on Friday filed separate disqualification cases against members of the influential Villafuerte clan who are running for electoral seats here.
At past 10 a.m. Friday, LP gubernatorial candidate Jose Anselmo Cadiz and LP second district congressional candidate Sabas Mabulo proceeded to the provincial Commission on Elections office to file separate cases of disqualification against Gov. Luis Raymund “LRay” Villafuerte, who is running for the second district congressional seat under the Nacionalista Party (NP), and his son Migz (NP), who is running for governor.
Cadiz and Mabulo asked the Comelec to disqualify LRay and Migz for violation of the election ban in the wake of the arrest and detention early on Tuesday of eight armed security escorts who were allegedly working for the governor and his son and the confiscation of province-owned vehicle that contained their campaign materials.
At 1:58 p.m. Friday, LP third district congressional candidate Leni Robredo also filed disqualification cases against her opponent, Nationalist People’s Coalition candidate Nelly Villafuerte and the latter’s husband, Rep. Luis R. Villafuerte, on allegations of vote buying.
Congressman Villafuerte is running for governor against his grandson Migz and LP’s bet Cadiz.
