Vice governor, son hail DOJ ruling on slay

09:22 PM May 09, 2013

NEGROS Occidental Vice Gov. Genaro Alvarez and his son welcomed a Department of Justice resolution that dismissed the case against them for the murder of Judge Henry Arles last year.

In a statement, Alvarez said his rival in the gubernatorial race, incumbent Gov. Alfredo Maranon, has been lobbying at the DOJ for the case to be submitted for trial.

The Alvarezes cried persecution following a series of raids on houses of candidates of the Nationalist People’s Coalition purportedly as part of a campaign against illegal firearms.

The search for firearms, however, yielded negative results.

The DOJ has dismissed the case against the Alvarezes for lack of evidence. The DOJ resolution said the allegation against the Alvarezes has not been “sufficiently established.”
