The Regional Rehabilitation Center for Youth (RRCY) of the Department of Social Welfare and Development in Central Visayas (DSWD), together with Julie’s Bakeshop, has recently launched its feeding program in Argao town, southern Cebu.

The program will benefit 54 young adults, aged 15-24, under the care of RRCY.

RRCY head Bibiana Horvath welcomed the new partnership during the launching of the program in RRCY compound. “We welcome this partnership and we are happy that Julie’s Bakeshop has chosen the facility to be one of its recipients.”

“Julie’s Bakeshop has a mission of nourishing people. Its success comes from the loyalty of its clientele and this is how the company wants to give back to the people starting here in RRCY,” said Marie Ann Uy, Julie’s Bakeshop Marketing Department senior supervisor.

Julie’s Bakeshop founder Julia Gandionco describes their social civic initiative as “a sense of social responsibility – to touch, to feel, to reach out and most especially to give.”

RRCY is operated and maintained by the DSWD for 32 years now to provide rehabilitation care for the youths and children in conflict with the law.

Horvath said the center is now mobilizing its efforts to obtain vocational skills training or scholarships for their residents for the coming school year.

Julie’s Bakeshop has already started providing scholarships to some of the residents in RRCY. It will also provide skills training on basic bread baking for those who are interested to work in the bread industry.

The feeding programs will be conducted weekly.

The bakeshop has also scheduled other feeding programs in the different DSWD centers and institutions in the coming weeks including the Area Vocational Rehabilitation Center II, Haven Centre for Women and the Home for Girls.
