Deadline for filing SALN looms

/ 04:31 AM April 28, 2013

MANILA, Philippines—The Office of the Ombudsman has reminded all government officials and employees to file their Statement of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth (SALN) on or before the April 30 deadline.

Ombudsman Conchita Carpio Morales cited Section 8 of Republic Act No. 6713, or the Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees, which requires government officials and employees to submit declarations under oath of their assets, liabilities, net worth and financial and business interests, including those of their spouses and unmarried children under 18 years of age living in their households.

Under the law, government officials and employees are required to file their SALNs within 30 days after assumption of office; on or before April 30, of every year thereafter; and within 30 days after their separation from government service.

The Civil Service Commission recently released the new SALN form that is to be used beginning this year.

Morales warned that failure to file a SALN is punishable with suspension of one to six months for the first offense, and dismissal from the service for the second offense.—Cynthia D. Balana
