Feeding program launched for Cordova schoolchildren

A feeding program aimed to lower malnutrition is now ongoing at the Gabi Elementary School in barangay Gabi, Cordova, Cebu.

The AboitizLand Inc., with Aboitiz Foundation and AboitizLand organization ICare Batch 5, launched the “Ang Batang Busog, Baskug ug Himsug” program last July 18 for the 55 school pupils.

Parents will prepare nutritious meals planned by them and the school teachers.

The ICare Batch 5 will conduct monthly visitation to monitor the weight and development of the schoolchildren.

During the launching ceremony, AboitizLand Inc.’s AVP for Human Resource Christopher Camba explained to the schoolchildren the importance of a healthy mind and healthy body as they attend school.

He also said that the progam will give each child the right amount of food with the right nutritional values for lunch every schoolday for six months starting last July 18.

Looking towards enough vegetable supply for the feeding program, AbotizLand donated vegetable seedlings to the school.

The ceremonial planting of the seedlings was done by Camba, the I Care Batch 5, Gabi barangay councilors headed by barangay captain Celedonio Sitoy and school teachers.

Ang Batang Busog, Baskug ug Himsug is managed by AboitizLand employees as part of the company’s corporate social responsibility program in cooperation with ICare Batch 5.

Catherine Relosa, AboitizLand marketing officer and member of ICare Batch 5, said the feeding program intends to “care for the Filipino child’s health and go for a nourished country.”

Aside from the feeding program, AboitizLand Inc. is also building a preparatory education classroom for Gabi Elementary School in partnership with Aklat Gabay at Aruga Tungo sa Pag-angat at Pag-asa.
