Woman, 70, shot dead in Samboan

A 70-year-old  woman was shot dead inside her house in barangay Colase, Samboan town, southern Cebu.

Bartola Catubig of Siquijor province was shot in the left chest. She died before reaching the hospital.

Police investigation showed that Catubig was watching television inside the bedroom of her two-story house when her assailants barged in at past 9 p.m. last Saturday and shot her with a .45 pistol.

The victim’s neighbors said they saw three men aboard a motorcycle speeding away from the house after the incident.

They said that the driver of the motorcycle was wearing a helmet, one of his backriders was wearing a white sweatshirt while the other one wore a black shirt.

Police said Catubig was living with her nine-year-old granddaughter, who was at a neighbor’s house when the incident happened.

PO1 Joseph Bilangoy of Samboan police said before the incident, the victim asked her granddaughter to get a plate at their neighbor’s house.

When the child returned home, she saw her bloodied grandmother lying on the floor.

Police recovered an empty slug of a .45 caliber pistol from the crime scene.
