Blue, Black share early lead

THE Blue Ice Dragon and Black Label beat separate foes for their second straight win to share the lead in the Juniors division of the 3rd Season Center Katipunan A. Lopez Christian Organization (CEKALCO)-2013 Mayor Mike Rama Cup Inter-Color basketball tournament.

Blue Ice Dragon bucked a lethargic opening in drubbing Green Lantern, 102-67 with Filmar Cacharro and Joseph Escolar scoring 32 and 24, respectively. Michael Sameon and Glen Aro paced Green Lantern with 13 and 12 markers.

In the other game of same division, Black Label edged Yellow Submarine, 81-79.

Yellow earned a slim lead in the first 2 periods, but Black tied the count at 58-all heading to the final quarter. In the fourth, the score was tied again at 79-all on RJ Mejellano’s basket with 18 ticks left before Black Label’s Joel Baiño drew a foul and calmly sank his two freethrows for the two-point win.

Joel Baiño powered Black with 27 points while Alki Bacalla and Ian Cacharro combined for 40 points. RJ Mejellano led the losing Yellow with 25 points. /Correspondent Dale Rosal
