Maid in baby-stabbing incident dies
THE HOUSEMAID who allegedly stabbed a seven-month-old baby and set her employer’s house on fire in Makati City died Friday night, police said yesterday. Police Officer 3 Dominador Robles of the Makati Police said the suspect, who was identified only as a certain Cherrie, died due to severe burns in the body. He added that they remain clueless about the suspect’s motive for attacking victim Callie Sol, who sustained multiple stab wounds and died while being treated at the hospital. Robles said he tried to interview the suspect before she expired at the hospital but the latter refused to answer questions. Investigation showed that John Raymond Sol, 26, saw the maid stabbing his baby Callie just before midnight Friday. He also noticed fire engulfing the kitchen area of their house on Gen. Luna Street, Barangay (village)South Cembo. He managed to pull the maid away from the baby but suffered burns too in the process. Police suspect the maid might have had a mental problem. Tina G. 2 women hit by cab in front of cop station
TWO WOMEN were hit by a speeding taxi just in front of a police station in Quezon City Saturday morning. The two were identified as Sherylyn Castro, 21, believed to be four months pregnant, and Tina Roncesvalles, 33. Both sustained injuries. Investigation showed that the victims were crossing E. Rodriguez Jr. Avenue just in front of the Libis police station amidst the rain around 11 a.m. when hit by the taxi driven by Rolando Manalang, 52, of Pasong Tamo, Quezon City. Manalang told investigators he did not see the women crossing the road. The women were rushed to the Quirino Memorial Medical Center for treatment. Jobless man kills self from Edsa footbridge
HE PLUNGED to his death just to make a statement. Police said Roberto Relayo, 37, died on the spot after deliberately back-diving from the railing of a 30-foot footbridge perpendicular to Edsa in Caloocan City early saturday morning. The former security guard, who lived in Bagong Barrio, Caloocan City, hit the concrete pavement of the southbound lane of the thoroughfare at 9:45 a.m. “He sat on the railing facing north and then thrust himself backward,” PO2 Alejandro Billedo, case investigator, told the Inquirer. Authorities suspect Relayo, whose wife works in Dubai, killed himself after he was accused by his in-laws of stealing a video camera from his wife’s relatives. 2 grenades left near Quiapo church found
THE PARISH priest of Quiapo Church yesterday urged the police to arrest the suspects who left two grenades near the church on Friday when it was full of devotees of the Black Nazarene. Monsignor Clemente Ignacio said the grenades were found at the corner of Paterno and Evangelista Streets or just “two buildings away” from the minor basilica. “What we just want is for the suspects to be arrested,” Ignacio said. “We will not be at peace until the suspects are arrested because devotees and parishioners pass through that area … It is a major artery.” He said the police informed him that the target was supposed to be an Indian national who had a business in the area “competing with another Indian national.” “We want the police to speed up its investigation and we want speedy action.
