Inmate escapes Dumanjug jail

AN INMATE bolted out of the town jail in barangay Poblacion, Dumanjug town in southern Cebu yesterday.

Leomar Angana, 25, who is facing illegal possession of firearms and explosives charges, managed to bend the iron bars of the cell, went through a manhole, and escaped through the comfort room’s window.

SPO2 Florencio Clarion, duty guard, found out of Angana’s escape when he checked the cells at 3 a.m.

Angana is also facing frustrated murder and possession of illegal drug charges. He was arrested last April 6.

He was charged with frustrated murder after he allegedly shot a member of a rival group led by David Quirante Jr. last month at the town’s plaza.

PO3 Dionisio Tagopa, desk officer of Dumanjug police, said Angana tried to escape  from the cell in the past week by removing the plywood of the cell’s ceiling. He was, however, caught in that attempt.

Cebu Provincial Police Office Chief Patrocinio Comendador Jr. said an investigation would be conducted on the incident./Correspondent Joy Cherry S. Quito
