Alternate Lapu road opened to decongest traffic

TRAFFIC at the Basak road in Lapu-Lapu City eased up after a Pakpakan diversionary road was opened to motorists last Friday.

Work on the two lane concreted road that measured nearly a kilometer started last January and cost the city P9.2 million.

“The Pakpakan road will decongest the traffic along Basak area, there are now over one dozen subdivisions in sitio Sudtunggan and Suba-Masulog,” Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Paz Radaza said in her speech during the opening. The road will pass through Deca Homes.

The city has an agreement with the developer to open Deca Homes 24/7, Radaza said.

She said this was included in the permit that she issued to them prior to the development of the subdivision.

The tricycles going to and from the Poblacion market and Sudtungggan Basak will be diverted to the newly opened Pakpakan road.

Before reaching Mactan Doctors’ Hospital from Barangay Poblacion, the Pakpakan road is at the right and will reach Sudtunggan and Grand Mall in Barangay Basak.

Before the road was opened, motorists keep on complaining about the heavy traffic at Basak road starting at the Mactan Doctors’ Hospital going to Grand Mall and from the mall heading to barangay Poblacion.

The city first acquired the lots at the area to widen it, but budget constraints delayed implementation.
