150 participants to vie in three-day CEOBSA competition on April 26 to 28

AROUND 150 participants from seven associations are expected to join the Cebu Equine Owners Breeders Sportsman Association’s (CEOBSA) Cebu Horse Congress and Festival slated April 26 to 28 at the South Road Properties.

The competition features a barrel race, obstacle race and oval race.

The obstacle race is divided into expert, intermediate, novice, auxiliary, youth, royal and kiddies divisions. The auxiliary division is a special division for the handlers of the horses while the royal division is a division for new owners of horses.

The oval race is divided into three classes. Class A is for horses 58 inches and taller, the Class B is for horses 55 inches to 57 inches while Class C is for horses with a height of 54 inches and shorter.

Aside from the three events, CEOBSA also included a tartanilla show.

During a press conference held yesterday at the Cebu City Hall, Anton Quisumbing, the activity chairman of CEOBSA, said the tartanilla show is one of the reasons why the Cebu City Sports Commission and COEBSA put up this event. Quisumbing also said it is the group’s obligation to bring horses to the grassroots level.

Meanwhile, a horse’s station will be made available during the event, wherein veterinarians—including students from Southwestern University and Central Visayas University—will be watching over the participating horses.

The event is organized by COEBSA and the Cebu City Mayor’s Office in partnership with the Cebu City Sports Commission and the Cebu City Tourism Commission. /Intern Jannica Niña G. Papelleras
