Robbery suspect mauled in Mandaue

A 28-year-old man was beaten black and blue after he allegedly robbed a burger joint in barangay Tipolo, Mandaue City at dawn yesterday.

Jery Cañete, a resident of barangay Pakna-an, Mandaue City, was mauled by bystanders who came to the aid of Jesel Laborada, attendant of Angel’s Burger.

Laborada told police that she was tending the burger joint when Cañete arrived, pointed a gun at her and declared a hold-up.

Laborada said she was forced to hand over the store’s money worth P857.

Laborada said she alerted her live-in partner Timoteo Gotong who was in the burger joint at the time.

Laborada said when Canete saw Gotong, he hit him in the head with the butt of the gun.

Laborada then shouted for help, drawing the attention of passerby and bystanders, who cornered and mobbed Cañete.

The suspect was taken to a hospital in Cebu City with bruises all over the body.

Police seized the suspect’s motorcycle with plate number 3993-OT and his unlicensed gun.
