2013 polls to be more peaceful than 2007, 2010 — Garbo

The top official of the Philippine National Police in Central Visayas said he expects the May 2013 election in Cebu to be more peaceful than the 2007 and 2010 polls.

Chief Supt. Marcelo Garbo credited this to strong partnership between the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Commission of Election (Comelec) that started in the 2010; and the present government administration.

Garbo commended Comelec 7 Regional Director Temie Lambino for managing the election season well.

“With the leadership of Dir. Lambino, we believe that we can attain whatever expectation we have for the 2013 election,” he added during yesterday’s dialog with the Cebu Citizens–Press Council.

“The 2010 election was the best one for me,” he said.

“I believe the 2013 election is a continuation of that. And 2013 will be a model for 2016.”

Garbo reported that since the start of the election period in Jan. 13, 139 persons were arrested at checkpoints for violation of the election gun ban and 139 for gun ban violations, including Boljoon policeman SPO2 Carlito Amarillo who was arrested two weeks ago in Argao town./Correspondent Christine Emily L.
