20 hurt as 2 trucks collide on EDSA southbound lane–MMDA
MANILA, Philippines — About 20 people were injured when the truck they were riding hit another truck in Quezon City before dawn Thursday, a Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) officer said.
Vincent Lizada of MMDA-Metrobase said the collision occurred along the southbound lane of EDSA-Kaingin in Quezon City around 3:50 a.m., when an ELF truck loaded with fish hit a trailer truck carrying a backhoe.
“Nabangga ng ELF yung kamay ng backhoe na dala dala ng trailer truck,” Lizada said, which caused the ELF truck to fall on its side.
Field investigator Jerald Padilla of Quezon City traffic sector 1 said most of the injured persons were sleeping on a plywood placed atop fish containers and where thrown onto the street after the accident.
Among the wounded was the driver of the ELF truck, while the driver of the other truck reportedly fled after the incident.
The victims were rushed to East Avenue Medical Center.
