Another apparently random killing in Quezon City

MANILA, Philippines—One of three motorcycle-riding men gunned down Friday afternoon a butcher who simply stepped out of his home in Quezon City after a meal, police said.

The assailants, who were on two motorcycles, sped away after the attack on Julius Francis Cabales, 38, of Kasunduan Street in Barangay Commonwealth, who died instantly from multiple bullet wounds.

Senior Police Officer 1 Cristituto Zaldarriaga  of the Quezon City Police District Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit said that the attack happened around 3:30 p.m. in front of Cabales’ home.

Zaldarriaga said that according to witnesses, Cabales had just taken a late lunch and  momentarily stepped out of his home when the three men on motorcycles arrived, stopping in front of the butcher.

One of the men got off his motorcycle, drew a handgun and started firing at the stunned Cabales until he keeled over, dead. The gunman then sped away with his cohorts toward Commonwealth Avenue.

Scene of the crime operatives recovered four bullet casings and two slugs from a .45-caliber pistol at the site of the shooting.

Zaldarriaga said that they had yet to establish a motive for Cabales’ killing.
