Cordova town candidates ink peace covenant
LOCAL candidates of Cordova town signed a peace covenant at the San Roque Parish Hall in Barangay Poblacion, Cordova last Wednesday afternoon.
The event initiated by Chief Insp. Alvin Balio, Cordova police chief and Fr. Roman Alaan, parish priest of the San Roque Parish Church, was attended by Cordova Mayor Adelino Sitoy and Vice Mayor Rodrigo Jumao-as.
Sitoy is running under the Liberal Party-Cebu (LP-Cebu) while Jumao-as is under the One Cebu party.
Johnson Tan, an independent party candidate and boxing promoter Wakee Salud’s replacement, was also in attendance.
The three were with their respective slates who also signed the peace covenant.
“We don’t hold grudges against each other because we are all after for the welfare of Cordova, I will support and will look into this covenant,” Sitoy said.
Jumao-as said his party will follow the Commission on Elections (Comelec) rules on campaign materials.
“I will also keep the line of communications to my opponents open,” Jumao-as said. Tan was dismayed at the police’s supposed failure to arrest an armed man who entered his home last month.
“I hope the police would go after these armed persons and arrest violators,” he said.
Comelec officer Arvin Maghanoy said he hopes the three candidates will help keep the elections clean and peaceful. Correspondent Norman V. Mendoza
