Joavan marked by police as security threat

FOR threatening a woman with a firearm Joavan Fernandez, adopted son of Talisay City Mayor Socrates Fernandez is considered a security threat.

Senior Supt. Elmer Lim, Talisay City police chief, said the woman identified as Florita Echavez Rosas sought their assistance after she was allegedly threatened by Joavan. She said she admonished the mayor’s son for posting campaign materials at her home.

Rosas said she told Joavan he should have asked her permission first before doing so. She said Joavan responded by brandishing a guntucked behind his waistband and continued to post campaign materials of his father at her home.

Talisay City Mayor Socrates Fernandez admitted that Joavan should have asked Rosas’s permission. Joavan was earlier spotted driving his vehicle with blinkers during an Alayon Party caravan.

Lim said he already talked with Senior Supt. Patrocinio Comendador Jr., Cebu provincial police chief and he was given a green light to monitor Joavan’s movements and arrest him once he commits violations.

When asked if Joavan can be classified as a “security threat”, Comendador replied that being “a security threat simply means that the guy is capable of disrupting the peace and tranquility of the community.”

“It is not a new classification but a technical term,” Comendador said.

Lim said the gun ban should be enforced and its violators arrested regardless of their station.

“We are here to do our job and it’s nothing personal,” Lim said.

The Talisay City police chief said he called up Mayor Fernandez repeatedly but the mayor didn’t return his calls. Correspondent Gabriel C. Bonjoc
