Friday is hottest so far in Metro Manila

MANILA, Philippines—The temperature in Metro Manila soared to 35.4 degrees Celsius Friday afternoon, the hottest for this year, the state weather bureau said.

The scorching temperature was recorded at 2 p.m. at Pagasa Science Garden in Quezon City, Benjie de Paz of the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration told INQUIRER.net.

The new record for the year beat Wednesday’s sizzling temperature of 35.2 degrees Celsius in Metro Manila.

He also said that temperatures in Metro Manila could reach up to 37 degrees Celsius this summer.

The hottest temperature in Metro Manila was recorded at 38.5 degrees Celsius on May 14, 1987.

Meanwhile, Dagupan City in Pangasinan and General Santos City had their hottest temperatures for the year at 37.0 degrees Celsius on April 3.

The state weather bureau said in its bulletin that a ridge of high pressure area is extended across Luzon.

“The whole country will have partly cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms mostly in the afternoon or evening,” Pagasa said.
