QUEZON, Philippines — The United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) has taken its senatorial campaign here Friday in an effort to secure the support of some 900,000 registered voters.
UNA senatorial candidates kicked off its motorcade from Tiaong, Quezon at past 9 a.m.
The opposition believes that the province is not a Liberal Party stronghold despite its incumbent vice governor and two lawmakers from Quezon’s four districts being affiliated with the LP.
UNA said that while Quezon Governor David Suarez was running for re-election under the National Unity Party, his father, outgoing House minority leader Danilo Suarez, was “allied” with them.
The House leader is also the vice-chairman of former President and now Pampanga Representative Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo’s Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (Lakas-CMD) party.
Lakas-CMD has maintained that it was endorsing Zambales Representative Milagros “Mitos” Magsaysay even if she has left them for UNA last year.
UNA’s senatorial candidates will be meeting with Danilo Suarez’s wife Aleta, who is planning to take over the third district of Quezon in the 16th Congress.
They will also be holding a rally in the province’s capital Lucena City, led by the governor’s running mate, incumbent board member Romano Talaga.
