Anti-RH, pro-RH come up with list of candidates
Groups supporting and opposing the Reproductive Health (RH) law are coming up with their list of candidates to support in the May 13 polls.
A group called Lay Initiative for Election (Life) 2013 already has a list of six senatorial candidates to support in the election.
Not to be outdone, supporters of the RH law are also rolling out a campaign supporting candidates who supported the passage of the law.
Dr. Rene Bullecer, country director of Human Life International said Life has already decided to support the senatorial bids of four United Nationalist Alliance bets, namely Joseph Victor “JV” Ejercito, Maria Lourdes “Nancy” Binay, Ma. Milagros “Mitos” Magsaysay, and Gregorio Honasan. Liberal Party bets Senators Koko Pimentel and Antonio Trillanes are also in their list.
Dr. Rowena Burden, a strong RH advocate said they will also be printing their own campaign materials, endorsing their list of candidates.
She presented a t-shirt design with the label in front that says “Conscience Vote, Team Buhay, Pro-RH”. Under it is their list of senatorial candidates and independent Teddy Casiño and LP bets Senators Francis Escudero, Loren Legarda, Alan Peter Cayetano, and Aurora Rep. John Edgardo Angara. They also named their chosen party list groups, Akbayan, Gabriela, Bayan Muna, Kabataan, Ang Ladlad, Anak Pawis, and Diwa.
At the back is a slogan saying “Freedom of Choice! We ask for nothing MORE and will accept nothing LESS.”
Bullecer said they will add to their list to come up with a list of 12 senators.
Life added Bullecer will also support local candidates they thought are anti RH.
For the congressional candidates Life 2013 will be endorsing Gerald Anthony “Samsam” Gullas Jr. who is running for congressman in the 1st district; the reelection of Pablo Garcia for the 2nd district; Gwendolyn Garcia for the 3rd District; and Benhur Salimbangon for the 4th district.
Raul del Mar who is running for the congressional seat of Cebu City’s north district; Aileen Radaza for the lone district of Lapu-Lapu City are also in their list.
They are still deliberating the other local candidates to supports, said Bullecer.
