Lapu, Mandaue continue drive vs illegal campaign posters

LAPU-LAPU City Mayor Paz Radaza has ordered the local environment office to remove all illegally posted election campaign materials in the city.

Last Tuesday, the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (Cenro) started removing the illegally posted election campaign materials around the city.

In Mandaue City, the clean-up of illegal campaign posters continued for the second day yesterday.

Mayor Radaza said her order is consistent with her administration’s clean and green program.

“Being very concerned of the city’s beautification projects and cleanliness, this illegally posted materials should also be removed because it will look very untidy and chaotic but on top of all of this, it is but a very simple law which the city is very capable of doing it, we want to be the example of other parties.” Radaza said.

Roderico Tagaan, head of the Cenro said they would continue their operations as long as there are illegal posters in the city.

For island barangays, candidates may use the plaza or market as the common poster areas.

In Mandaue City, city government personnel continue their clean up in major thoroughfares.

Workers from the city’s Anti-squatting Team, Clean and Green and Eco Warden including personnel from 27 barangays went around the city taking down illegally posted election campaign materials.

Public Information Office (PIO) head, Roger Paler said they will be distributing the leaflets as part of their information-dissemination following the mandate of Mayor Jonas Cortes.

“Mao mani mando ni mayor nga leaflets lang para maka balo ang mga tao unsay dili dapat ug dapat butngan,” Paler said while saying that they will be asking help from 27 barangay halls in disseminating the leaflets to inform the public.

Under Comelec Resolution No. 9615, it is unlawful to post, display or exhibit any election campaign or propaganda material outside of authorized common poster areas and in public places.
