Man shot dead, another hurt in QC traffic dispute

A man was shot dead while his companion was injured in a traffic altercation Sunday evening in Quezon City.

Nestor Barientos, 48, was shot once in the chest at 8:30 p.m. along Payatas Road, Payatas B.

Case investigator Police Officer 3 Gregorio Maramag, of the Quezon City Police District’s Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit, said that Barientos, a resident of Barangay (village) Pasong Tamo, died before reaching the Far Eastern University Hospital for treatment.

His companion, Marvin Escorial, 33, a resident of Marikina City, was also seriously injured in the incident involving the driver of another vehicle.

Maramag said they have yet to determine the driver’s identity since no one was able to get the vehicle’s license plate.

A friend of the victims, August Cusay, told police investigators that he, Barientos and Escorial were aboard a Nissan Sentra (TJR-601) when they figured in a traffic altercation with the driver of a Kia Pregio.

Blocked

Escorial and Barientos got off their vehicle after blocking the path of the Pregio so they could talk to the driver.

However, the driver allegedly began firing at the two men while still inside his vehicle, and immediately drove away.

Cusay rushed his companions to the hospital but Barientos died on the way.
