Gov’t says tech glitch disrupted Thai TV signals
BANGKOK—A government communication official says a satellite problem disrupted some television broadcasts in Thailand—a glitch that stoked fears of a military coup.
The Ministry of Information and Communication Technology official told the TPBS TV network Thursday that a technical difficulty in the signal controlling system of a ThaiCom satellite caused the problem.
Military exercises that took place this week were seen as a show of political force, particularly as top-ranking officers publicly vowed to protect the Thai monarchy.
Leaders of the anti-government Red Shirt movement just hours before the broadcast disruption accused the army of preparing for a coup. Thailand has suffered political instability since a 2006 coup toppled elected Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra.
