RELATIVES of a 30-year-old man in Mandaue City were relieved to find out that Jeffrey Rama, a victim of paregla or random violence, was still alive.
Rama was badly mauled by three men Sunday night in barangay Subangdaku, Mandaue City.
He was taken to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC) in Cebu City with a laceration in his head.
Relatives were told in the government hospital that Rama had died. His sister Elsa Antir had his “death” recorded in the police blotter, said Senior Insp. Franco Rudolf Oriol, chief of the Subangdaku police station.
But when Antir arrived home, a hospital staffer phoned him to say his brother was alive and conscious, prompting the family to return to VSMMC.
Rama was trying to sell a shovel when he met the three men along road last Sunday.
One of the suspects identified as Alejandor Serad, 24, hit Rama in the head with the shovel and stones.
The culprits fled after the incident, leaving the bloodied Rama, who was taken to the Mandaue City Hospital before he was transferred to VSMMC.
SPO2 Antholin Montecalvo said that according to reports of the family, Rama was already in the morgue when he regained consciousness.
His brother, Joel, went to the police station on Monday morning to inform authorities that his brother was still alive./REPORTER JUCELL MARIE P. CUYOS
