Photo exhibit on human trafficking held at STC

THE International Justice Mission (IJM) Cebu, an international human rights organization, conducted a photo exhibit last July 25-28 at the St. Theresa’s College (STC) on General Maxilom Avenue, Cebu City.

The event aimed at raising  awareness against human trafficking, tackled “The Story of Human Trafficking.”

According to Jules Bungcaras, IJM coordinator, the event served around 1,000 students from elementary, high school and college.

Bungcaras said the justice advocates from STC and the IJM are planning to conduct an awareness campaign to help educate the people about human traficking in the cities of Cebu, Mandaue and Lapu-Lapu.

The photo exhibit also featured videos of singer Christian Bautista, an IJM ambassador. Wilma Elizabeth Rada, the STC College Student Council president, said the videos encouraged the youths to volunteer as justice advocates.

“This event is the best channel where students from the different institutions can participate and become aware of the issue on human trafficking,” said Cris Virgil Pescadero, a justice advocate of the University of the Philippines Cebu.

Bungcaras said that through the photo exhibit, they recruited several students from  high schools, colleges and universities to become advocates for t he sexually exploited children and women. Bungcaras said the IJM will train the new recruits to prepare them for community awareness and mobilization activities. /UP Cebu Masscom student Haydee Mae P. Estibar
