NBI files murder complaint vs suspect in slay of Nueva Vizcaya budget officer
MANILA, Philippines–The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has filed a complaint for murder before the Nueva Vizcaya court following the arrest of a 42-year-old man who went in hiding in 2011 for killing a budget officer in the province.
Reonel Martinez, 42, was arrested by NBI operatives last March 21 at a gasoline station on Heroes Highway. Found in his possession were an unlicensed cal. .45 pistol with four live bullets, a homemade Magnum .22 cal. with magazine and 51 live bullets, a handcuff, a Citizen’s Crime Strike Group badge and identification cards.
The victim, Arlyne Fernandez, budget officer of the Nueva Vizcaya State University was shot dead in the morning of Aug. 15, 2011.
Witnesses identified Martinez as the one who shot Fernandez.
NBI operatives went to Bambang, Nueva Vizcaya after receiving a tip that Martinez was spotted in the area.
During the inquest proceedings, Martinez signed a waiver and invoked his right to a preliminary investigation. He was turned over to the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology in Solano, Nueva Vizcaya.
