Six-year-old boy hacked to death in Zamboanga Sur

MANILA, Philippines—Authorities arrested a 21-year-old man in Zamboanga del Sur after he allegedly hacked to death a six-year-old boy early Sunday, police said Monday.

Police identified the suspect as Eric Santillan who hacked the boy with a bolo in Purok (district) 3, Barangay (village) Sudlon, Molave, Zamboanga del Sur around 6:30 a.m. Sunday.

According to initial investigation, the boy was just playing outside their house when Santillan approached him. For no apparent reason, he suddenly attacked the child.

Police said the victim died on the spot after sustaining multiple wounds in different parts of the body.

The motive of the attack is still being investigated by police.
