In a statement, Makati Department of Public Safety director Hermenegildo San Miguel said the whole stretch of the busy thoroughfare will be opened to two-way traffic from March 23 to March 31, as “kubols” or religious tableaus and processions are to be held in the inner streets of Barangay Poblacion.
On its @MakatiTraffic Twitter account, the city government posted a map showing the “kubol” locations, resulting in the closure of portions of P. Guanzon, Don Pedro, Quintos, B. Valdez, Bagong Diwa, and S. Osmena streets.
Lenten zealots traditionally congregate around the tableaus for the “Pabasa” or the chanting of the Passion of Jesus Christ, or for meditation and prayer. Around 20 of the tableaus are expected to be set up in Poblacion.
City public safety and traffic enforcers will be deployed on the affected streets to guide motorists.
