The Marcelo B. Fernan bridge will remain open until 10 o’clock tonight when personnel of the Department of Public Works and Highways in Central Visayas (DPWH-7) start scraping the asphalt overlay of the bridge road.
Scraping will continue at night from 10 p.m. to 6 p.m. for the next five days. During this time, one lane will be open for vehicles.
Bicycles and motorcycles, however, won’t be allowed to pass the bridge when the asphalt scraping starts.
Motorists were reminded to be careful travelling over the scraped road which may become slippery when one suddenly applies the brakes, said Frank Brazil, heave of the Lapu-Lapu City Traffic Management System.
Personnel of PLD Construction, the contractor of repair work on both Mandaue-Mactan bridges, started repair of the Fernan Bridge expansion joints on the Mandaue City side, said Engr. Renult Ricardo, DPWH asst. district engineer. He said one of their cold milling machines broke down, delaying the asphalt scraping.
Rehabilitation of the. Fernan bridge is expected to be completed wiithin 90 days.
Traffic flow was normal during the day even on the Lapu-Lapu City side yesterday.
