CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna—A former president of the Association of Barangay Captains in Cavite was gunned down in a public market in Cavite City early Tuesday.
Rodolfo “Boyie” Picache, 72, was overseeing the delivery of fish supply to market stalls when gunned down at around 5:45 a.m. in the city’s public market.
Supt. Ruben Andiso, city police chief, said witnesses saw a lone gunman, wearing a baseball cap and a green long-sleeved shirt, flee on foot after the shooting.
Picache suffered two gunshot wounds in the head. His son Anselmo, who was with him that morning, rushed Picache to Bautista Hospital but he was declared dead on arrival.
Police recovered at the crime scene three empty shells of a .45 cal. gun.
Andiso said they are still conducting follow-up operations on the case but immediately ruled out politics as a motive.
This was despite reports that Andiso was a supporter of Imus lone representative and gubernatorial candidate Erineo “Ayong” Maliksi.
Maliksi, in a radio interview, was quoted as saying that Picache became an active supporter since the campaign for the May elections began.
But “we don’t consider it (as a case of) election-related violence since it had been a while since he left politics,” Andiso said in a phone interview.
He said the victim owned a fish farm.
