Boy killed at SRP by hit-and-run driver

A 12-YEAR-old scavenger was killed after he was hit by a  vehicle at the South Road Property (SRP) in sitio Kimba, barangay San Roque, Talisay City yesterday.

Johnlery Talabo died due to head injuries.

Witnesses told police that the vehicle with plate no. YDU-300 didn’t stop after hitting the boy and continued towards Cebu City. They, however, didn’t say what kind of vehicle it was.

Talabo was rushed to the Talisay City District Hospital but he didn’t reach the hospital alive.

Police said Talabo was scavenging in the area and was crossing the street  when the accident happened at past 8 p.m.

The victim’s mother, Roxane, a fruit vendor, said her husband left for Malaysia leaving her to care for the family. Johnlery stopped schooling to help her mother support his younger brother and sister by collecting junk or recyclable materials.

PO1 Rosauro Pasumala of the Talisay City Traffic Division  said they are conducting hot pursuit operation to apprehend the driver responsible for the boy’s death./Correspondent Gabriel C. Bonjoc
