Cebuano Fajardo bags first weekly award

Cebuano behemoth June Mar Fajardo is steadily living up to his potential as he nabbed his very first Player of the Week award that was bestowed upon him for the period of March 11 to 17 in the ongoing PBA Commissioner’s Cup.

The former University of Cebu center was picked first in this season’s draft, and brought out his A-game at the right time as he scored 20 points and had 13 rebounds to offset the absence of an import in their 87-79 win over the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters last Saturday in Panabo City Davao del Norte.

In all, Fajardo made all but two of his 11 attempts from the floor and also issued two assists and swatted away a shot in 25 minutes of action that pointed his team to a sixth win in eight games for second place behind the Alaska Aces.

Fajardo is also blossoming under the tutelage of two-time league MVP Danny Ildefonso, who has taken the Pinamungahan-native under his wing.

While Ildefonso is teaching Fajardo the tricks of the trade on offense, Dorian Pena is imparting some crucial tips for the defensive side of the floor.

All those are helping Fajardo’s development as a player progress in the desired direction.

Currently, Fajardo averages 10.0 points, anchored on a 53.7 percent field shooting, as well as 7.5 rebounds per game. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
