In a middle of a thunderstorm, a tornado shattered the glass windows of a fastfood restaurant in Quezon City on Thursday afternoon, causing injuries to five children who were inside a playpen.
Initial reports from the Quezon City Police District Masambong station said the freak occurrence happened around 4:30 p.m. as strong winds, rains and even hail, in some cases, were pelting most areas in the city, including San Francisco del Monte, after several hours of soaring temperatures.
Witnesses said that suddenly, powerful gusts of wind shattered the windows of the fast-food restaurant at the corner of Roosevelt and Del Monte Avenues in San Francisco Del Monte.
Most of the windows which broke were installed on the establishment’s second floor where the playpen was located.
At that time, several children were playing and some of the glass shards fell on them, leaving five injured, including a 2-year-old child.
Those who were hurt were immediately brought to the nearby St. Agnes General Hospital for treatment.
