KENYAN runners swept the 16-kilometer race in yesterday’s 3rd Make A Difference (MAD) Run that started and ended at the Lahug Barangay Hall.
Irene Kipchumba and Philip Ronoh shared top honors in the 16-kilometer category while compatriot James Mbei also put up a strong performance in the 10k race.
Kipchumba showcased her prowess in the 16k distance as she finished the race with a time of one hour, 21 minutes and 42 seconds. University of Southern Philippines-Foundation (USP-F) ace runner Joeyry Lee finished second, clocking 1:22.51 while Mary Jane Beboso rounded off the top three female runners with a time of 1:26.42.
In the male side of the 16k, Ronoh and fellow Kenyan Douglas Mwiti finished first and second, respectively. Ronoh finished in 58 minutes and 15 seconds while Mwiti clocked 59:41. Cebuano Adonis Singson settled for third with a time if one hour and 42 seconds.
Mbei, meanwhile, was the fastest in the 10k race, finishing with a time of 35:12. Franie Canumay and John Darryl Manos came in second and third, respectively with times of 35:34 and 35:48.
Meanwhile, Lovely Fe Andrin outran Karla Cosep and Lynle Cardenas to rule the 10k distaff side with a time of 46:22. Cosep and Cardenas finished with times of 46:25 and 48:49, respectively.
Aiza Suaybaguio (22:25) and Meljun Luterte (17:38) emerged on top in the 5k race.
Suaybaguio beat Lovely Fe’s older sister, Jhean, and youngest sister, Cherry, who claimed second and third spots, respectively.
Luterte’s closest pursuer was Kier Emnace, who placed second with a time of 17:39. Michael Roca placed third with a time of 18:35. /CORRESPONDENT DALE G. ROSAL
