ODIZA Abellana, a 10th placer in last January’s Cebu Marathon 42-kilometer marathon, put up a sterling performance yesterday, dominating the 2013 All-Women’s Ultra Marathon yesterday from Plaza Independencia to White Sands Beach in Mactan.
Abellana, known for her impressive long-distance running skills, clocked five hours, 14 minutes and 41 seconds to rule the race, which started 10 p.m. last Saturday. The race finished early yesterday.
Claiming the second place in this annual ultra marathon was Preciosa Sanchez, who clocked five hours, 26 minutes and 21 seconds. Janice Beth Mamenta rounded off the top three finishers with a time of 5:30.00 followed by Mary Luz Hermosa at fourth (5:36.02) and June Marq Ocana at fifth (5:39.41).
Out of 150 runners, 143 finished the night race that passed through Mactan, Cansaga and Marcelo Fernan bridges. /CORRESPONDENT DALE G. ROSAL
