Dodie Boy Jr. guns for crucial victory tonight
Young knockout sensation Dodie Boy Peñalosa Jr. promised Cebuano boxing fans a duel to the finish when he tangles with his first foreign opponent today in Thai Muay Thai veteran turned boxer Kong “The Thailand Tornado” Kiapracha Gym in the main event of the “Laban Ng Lahi: Dugong Kampeon” at the Mandaue City Sports Complex at 6 p.m.
Dodie Jr. and his foe both came in at 122lb during official weigh-in held at the Sports Exchange Bar and Grill at the Mango Square Mall.
“Excited kaayo ko, di nako kahuwat mo away niya, ako jud ipakita sa tanan nga akong buhaton tanan para modaog,” said Peñalosa Jr. after the weigh-in. “Ako lang siya sukdon inig first round kay wala man jud ko background ani niya,” added the 21-year-old boxer who sports a pro record of five wins all by knockout.
Dodie Jr. thanked his uncle, two-division world champion Gerry Peñalosa who is promoting the fight under his GerryPenns Promotions.
The 32-year-old Kiapracha Gym who arrived last Thursday, said he came here very prepared. He has logged 50 professional Muay Thai fights in Thailand and 20 pro boxing fights and counts his vast experience as one of his main arsenals against Dodie Jr. The latter though, enjoys a modest height advantage.
“We came here with no fear. I am ready for this fight,” said Kiapracha Gym who will fight Dodie Jr. for eight rounds.

Article continues after this advertisementMeanwhile, the weigh-in between Jimrex Jaca and his opponent Philip Jun Demicillo of Davao shocked spectators after both exceeded the required weight of 145lb by a mile.
Jaca tipped the scales at 150lb while Demicillo came in at 160lb.
Rodel “Batang Mandaue” Mayol also failed to make weight coming in at 114lb which is two pounds over the agreed 112lb limit. His opponent, Jayson Rotoni of Manila tipped the scales at 109.5b.
Eden Sonsona and his foe Eman Labansa also exceeded the 122lb catch weight. Sonsona came in 124 ¼lb while Labansa from Bohol weighed 123lb.
Promoter Gerry Peñalosa though, said all the fights will resume as scheduled despite the weight discrepancies as he promised boxing fans of a great boxing show. He said it is very rare to come up with a star-studded card like the one he had prepared.
Tickets are available at the Mandaue Sports Complex. General admission is pegged at P100 while lower box and ringside tickets are priced at P200 and P400 respectively.
