Thief says he used P700 to buy shabu

THE man accused of stealing P50,000 from a woman who was killed in a road accident in Mandaue City surrendered to the police last Thursday.

Although he admitted taking the bag of Victoria Canoy, Renato Llenes 35, said the bag contained only P700 and a cell phone and not P50,000.

Police said Canoy identified his cohorts as Reynaldo Palma and a certain Jovan and Jober.

Llenes was picked up by police in his home in barangay Paknaan after he informed PO1 Harley Itang that he was willing to surrender.

After learning of Llenes’ surrender, Palma went to the Investigation and Detection Management Branch to surrender the cell phone.

Llenes said they used the P700 to buy shabu.

SPO1 Arnulfo Quiachon said the family of Canoy should now prove that the bag contained P50,000 to support the filing of criminal charges against the three men.

Llenes and Palma were allowed to go home since no charges were filed yet against them. CORRESPONDENT NORMAN V. MENDOZA
