Donayre: I’m ready for April 27 fight
AFTER his stunning knockout victory over Baguio City’s Robert Bumina-ang during the Universal Reality Combat Championships (URCC) Baguio at the Baguio Convention Center, undefeated Cebuano Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fighter Vaughn “The Spawn” Donayre is set to face another tough test this coming April 27 at the SMX Convention Center.
Donayre, who now holds a record of 5-0 (win-loss), will be fighting for a possible title eliminator bout for the lightweight title vacated by Baguio City’s Honorio Banario, who is now the One Fighting Championship Featherweight champion.
Donayre, along with YawYan ArDigma Visayas and Mindanao chief Master Benigno “Ekin” Caniga Jr., have already started negotiating with URCC owner Alvin Aguilar in Baguio.
“I’ll definitely fight in Manila on April 27 but we are still not sure if it’s the title or the eliminator, but we will try to negotiate for the title fight,” said Donayre. “I’m ready for both options,” added Donayre during last Thursday’s press conference at the YawYan ArDigma Cebu head quarters. Joining him there were Caniga Jr. and Cebu-based British MMA fighter Cris Marvyn Thompson Brooks, who is also expected to fight on April 27 along with Donayre.
Donayre and Brooks will be fighting in the URCC Manila:Unrivaled at the SMX Convention Center.
Donayre is also the no.1 contender in the featherweight division but he prefers to fight in his ideal weight in the lightweight division.
