MANILA, Philippines—Why were there no policemen in sight?

This is the lingering question still waiting for a clear answer as Marikina City Mayor Del De Guzman promised to solve the carjacking and frustrated homicide incident involving veteran actress Pilar Pilapil.

WHERE ARE THE POLICE WHEN WE NEED THEM? Marikina City Mayor Del De Guzman explains to Radyo Inquirer what he knows about the carjacking-frustrated homicide case involving actress Pilar Pilapil.

In an interview with anchors Mon Tulfo and Reysie Amado of DZIQ 990 AM Radyo Inquirer on Tuesday, De Guzman said there were policemen patrolling the Marikina Riverbanks Center, a recreation park, where Pilapil was almost killed by her attackers on Thursday night.

“Unfortunately, they (police) might be inside the malls or patrolling elsewhere when the incident happened. However, there were witnesses who up to now are just keeping quiet out of fear. I asked them to come out and help us solve the case,” De Guzman said.

There are only about 200 policemen serving 16 barangays (villages) in his city, the mayor pointed out.

“I admit we need to augment the police force in Marikina,” he added.
