THE World Boxing Organization (WBO) has named the officials who will be working this Saturday, March 9, in the world interim minimumweight title match between Colombian Luis De La Rosa and Merlito Sabillo of the Philippines in the Coliseum Mario de Leon in Cerete, Colombia.
The referee will be Puerto Rican Genaro “Gino” Rodríguez while the three judges will be Ignacio Robles of Panama and Americans Glenn Feldman and Michael Pernick . The WBO supervisor for this fight will be the Colombian Felix Diaz.
The undefeated Sabillo (20W-0L, 10 KOs) is the reigning OPBF minimumweight champion and will be fighting overseas for the first time.
Dela Rosa (21W-1L-1D, 12 KOs) lost by split decision to Raul Garcia of Mexico in his first attempt to win the interim WBO crown in 2010. The regular world champion in the 105 lb division is Moises Fuentes of Mexico who moved up in weight and got a majority draw verdict in his attempt to unseat WBO light flyweight champion Donnie Nietes last Saturday here in Cebu.
In an article posted in the Spanish language boxing website notifight.com, Dela Rosa said that he is confident that he will beat Sabillo.
“I will have an advantage in fighting at home. I will have all my fans to provide energy round to round. It will be a great fight and I will assure all Colombians that I will triumph,” said dela Rosa. /correspondent Rene Bonsubre Jr.
