Wife shot dead in front of husband in Laguna

CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna, Philippines —- Police investigators are probing deeper into the case of a woman who was shot dead right after alighting from the car driven by her husband in San Pedro, Laguna, early Tuesday.

Supt. Kirby Kraft, San Pedro police chief, said Noemi Silvestre, 53, was shot at close range at around 6:45 a.m. in Barangay San Vicente.

Silvestre sustained a bullet wound at the back of her head and died an hour later in the hospital.

Police are conducting a deeper probe based on the initial statement of Silvestre’s husband who happened to be the lone witness to the murder.

The name of the husband is unavailable at the moment.

“Some details are not yet clear. The husband refuses to give his full statement at the moment and said he will report to us after attending to the burial of his wife,” Kraft said.

But based on the initial investigation, the husband was supposed to drive Silvestre to Harmony Homes, a private subdivision in Barangay San Vicente.

The wife was supposed to take a short cut to her friend’s home through a small gate but after alighting from the car, Silvestre was shot.

“The husband insists he didn’t see who and how his wife was shot,” Kraft said.

He said they have been looking into different angles in the murder. He said there were reports that the wife worked as a loan shark and her murderer could be someone who owed her.

Police are also looking into Silvestre’s big insurance money.

According to Kraft, they have received reports that the husband is a police superintendent but they are still verifying if he has retired from the service.
