SHS-AdC, UV win crowns in 2013 ThreeSixty Cup hoop

THE SACRED Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) and the University of the Visayas (UV) kept their dominance of grassroots basketball as they notched titles in the 2013 ThreeSixty Pharmacy Cup-Cebu Youth Basketball League 6 last Sunday at the City Sports Club Cebu basketball court.

The Magis Eagles went home two championships richer as they bagged crowns in the 10-under and 13-under divisions.

UV, meanwhile, remained as the standard-bearer in the 16-under class after capturing its second straight crown with a 77-69 win over Cebu Eastern College.

SHS-AdC outscored University of San Carlos (USC) North Campus, 42-33, in the 10-under finals, while the elder SHS-AdC team topped UV, 58-41, in the 13-under finale.

The momentum swung back and forth in the 10-under finals until Robert Mayam and Daleandre Singson conspired early in the fourth quarter to scored the Eagles’ first 12 points of the period to put the game out of reach at 35-26, with four minutes left.

Uriel Avila took over to give the team its biggest lead at 39-28 with two minutes remaining.

Avila and Mayam led SHS-AdC with 14 points apiece, while Singson, the son of ex-pro Dale Singson, added 11.

The 13-under finals went the same way as SHS-AdCtook a 16-4 first period lead, only to to lose control and trail, 18-21 at halftime.

The third period five for the Magis Eagles restored control with Jao Celerinos giving SHS-AdC a 23-22 lead right off the buzzer.

Andre Chua, Joshu Balankig and Hans Mesina gave SHS-AdC a 48-33 lead to launch the fourth period and settle the outcome. Chua led a balanced attack with 13 points while Celerinos added 10. Bacao and Mesina had eight points each.

In the 16-under finals, UV was made to bleed for the title after a solid stand by CEC.
