Mandaue college told to settle fees

08:17 AM March 02, 2013

Despite its transfer, the Mandaue City College faction headed by Dr. Paulus Cañete will be inspected by the City Treasurer’s Office for failing to secure a business permit.

Mandaue City Treasurer Regal Oliva said even if the school transferred from barangay Tipolo to H. Abellana Street, barangay Basak, they didn’t settle their unpaid fees.

Oliva recommended the MCC faction’s closure last year.

“Though they are a non-stock and non-profit institution and is exempted from business taxes, they are not exempted from the local fees,” Oliva said.

Among the school’s unpaid fees are garbage collection duesl.

Cañete said he will only allow the inspectors to enter the school if they secure a court order.

Canete said Oliva should also inspect the MCC recognized by Mayor Jonas Cortes.

“We are a public school so we don’t need to be inspected,” Canete said while pointing out that he is also happy that Mayor Cortes finally recognized their school through Oliva.

MCC headed by Canete transferred to a new and bigger location at H Abellana Street, barangay Basak, Mandaue City since September last year with their 1,000 students and almost 200 on-the-job training students.

The new school is rented for P20,000. Despite the fiscal problems, Cañete said the school’s five departments continue to sustain their operations.
