MANILA, Philippines—Three men were arrested while transporting 27 dogs to be slaughtered for meat in Baguio City, police said Thursday.
Three of the dogs were dead while the 24 others were weak when police flagged down the van ferrying the animals on a highway in Lemery, Batangas, Chief Superintendent Benito Estipona, Calabarzon regional director, said.
Estipona identified the suspects as Cabrera Generoso Garga, Roneto Medina, and Rosendo Magsino who were arrested along Diocno Highway in Lemery around 6:40 p.m.
A concerned citizen tipped off police about the transport of dogs for the underground meat market in Baguio City, he said.
