MANILA, Philippines — The United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) coalition on Thursday said that it was confident that voters from Northern Mindanao would deliver votes for its senatorial bets come election day.
The area remains an “Erap (former President Joseph Estrada) Country,” according to UNA secretary general and Navotas Representative Toby Tiangco, referring to the large votes Estrada received from the region in his bid for presidency in the past.
He said that the region has been consistent in its support for the former president, also voting for Estrada over President Benigno Aquino III back in the 2010 elections.
The UNA official also cited the good number of votes Northern Mindanao gave Vice President Jejomar Binay.
Tiangco said that they were confident that the Bukidnon-Cagayan de Oro-Iligan City triangle, would support UNA which is led by Estrada, Binay and Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile.
UNA’s senatorial ticket is expected to visit in full force these Mindanao provinces during the weekend, led by one of its candidates, former Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri who hails fro Bukidnon.
They are expected to kick off their campaign in region on March 2 in Bukidnon, as requested by Bukidnon-native Zubiri, before it moves to Cagayan de Oro on March 3 and Iligan City by March 4.
Tiangco said that their senatorial bets would discuss the constant power shortage being experienced in Mindanao and push for a 15-year energy blueprint to be crafted.
