6 houses razed in Cebu fire

CEBU CITY, Philippines – Six houses were totally destroyed while four others were damaged in a fire that hit a thickly populated area in this city on Wednesday afternoon.

Arson investigator Omar Segovia said the fire broke out at the 1:19 p.m. in Barangay (village) Quiot and was declared under control 22 minutes later.

Segovia said the fire reportedly started at the house of Victor Catubig and his live-in partner, Lucris Laurito.

The brother of Lucris, Jeffrey Laurito, claimed that he noticed that a spark from a wire on a power post fell on the house of Catubig, resulting in the fire, the investigator said.

Segovia said that most of the burned houses were made of light materials. He placed the damage caused by the fire at P300,000.

The investigator they have yet to confirm Jeffrey’s claim on the cause of the fire.
