Cadiz tops Cepca qualifying
NATIONAL MASTER Arnold Cadiz outclassed new member Nilo Llenes in the sixth and final round to rule the 2013 Cebu Executives and Professionals Chess Association (CEPCA) Monthly Qualifying Chess Tournament last Sunday at the Deep Blue Cafe in SM City-Cebu.
Cadiz was undefeated in this six-round Swiss System tournament as he logged 5.5 points off five wins and a draw.
He edged Michael Rebato in the first round, Philippine Air Force Sgt. Amado Olea in the second, El Labunog in the third and Gabby Misterio in the fourth round.
He drew Mike Banibane in the fifth round before bouncing back strong in the sixth round against Llenes. Winners in the monthly tournament will qualify to the Grand Finals slated this December. /CORRESPONDENT DALE G. ROSAL
