THE SAN MIGUEL Beermen barged into the win column once again as they blitzed the Singapore Slingers in the first period en route to registering a 66-55 win in the Asean Basketball League last Sunday night at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.
The win was the Beermen’s third straight on the road and their fourth win in seven games, good for solo second place behind the league-leading Indonesia Warriors, who stand with a 6-2 (win-loss) mark.
Chris Banchero led the Beermen with 16 points along with four rebounds, five assists, and four steals, while Asi Taulava had 10 points and grabbed 13 rebounds.
The Beermen seized control of the lead late in the first period, which they ended with a sizzling 18-3 rally for a 22-12 lead.
A three-pointer by JR Cawaling at the start of the ensuing period gave them a 13-point lead and the Beermen never looked back after that.
The Beermen imports were quiet in Sunday’s game totaling just 16 points with Matt Rogers, the man tapped to replace the injured Brian Williams, chipping in eight.
Next up for San Miguel will be a game against the Westport Malaysia Dragons this Saturday.
The Beermen are itching to pay the Dragons back after the latter dealt them a 76-82 loss two weeks ago.
