South Bus Terminal cuts feesby 25%

THE Provincial Economic Enterprise Council approved the reduction ofthe bus parking fee at the Cebu South Bus Terminal.

The resolution was passed following the meeting of Acting Gov. Agnes Magpale with the heads of the Cebu Mini-Bus Operators Association (CMBOA) and the Cebu Provincial Bus Operators Association last January 30, 2013.

Under the new scheme, the terminal parking fee will be reduced to P150 from P200 starting Feb. 25, 2013.

The parking fee was hiked from P100 to P200 after suspended Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia lifted the P5 passenger terminal fee last year.

Based on current bus traffic, the 25 percent reduction in bus terminal fee, the annual income of the CSBT will decrease by P8 million.

However, she said that with the passage of this resolution, the bus operators have agreed that they willwill encourage other bus operators to go back to the CSBT and hold off any impending fare hike.

Julieto Flores, president of the CMBOA told CEBU DAILY NEWS that they welcome the new development.

He also said that they have invited Magpale to join them in their meeting on March 12. From there, they will officially thank her for approving their request to reduce the fee.

The province earns P1.5 million a month from passenger terminal fees under the old collection scheme of P5 per passenger.
