Denver ‘The Excitement’ Cuello is preparing for a possible fight in Las Vegas on April 13 on the undercard of the choice title defense of WBC strawweight champion Xiong Zhao Zhong of China against Carlos Ortega of Panama.
Denver, who also fights under the name Cuello Singwangcha to honor his Thai sponsor, boxing patron Naris Singwangcha, has been a ‘champion in waiting’ for the past couple of years.
Promoter Aljoe Jaro informed philboxing.com that he has been having discussions with Eddy Reynoso of Canelo Promotions regarding Cuello’s bout in Las Vegas. Jaro has also kept in touch with WBC President Don Jose Sulaiman who indicated that there should be official signings made by the parties concerned regarding Cuello’s mandatory title shot so that he will be the next challenger to the winner of Zhong vs. Ortega.
There is also the rather sticky issue of another step aside fee for Cuello. Either way, Cuello continues to wait.
“They are looking for an opponent for Denver,” Jaro added. “I told them, he’ll fight anyone. I know Zhong is training in Thailand because of the cold weather in China. Denver has also started his training. My plan was for him to fight on March 30 at the Ynares Complex in Pasig.
That could happen if we don’t get a fight in Las Vegas on April 13,” Jaro declared.
